Our visit to the seaside

Panda class have had a lovely day at St Anne’s today. We learnt lots on our visit to the life boat centre, and got to see a real life boat close up!

Then we had a picnic on the beach enjoying the sunshine. We worked together to build sand castles and learnt how to play cricket and rounders. We’re starting to get the hang of it!

Before we left we had an ice cream on the prom and enjoyed the view!

Here are some photos of our day-ask us all about it!

Love is your soul being happy….

Rainbow week in Panda Class got off to a brilliant start on Monday with a discussion all about love. We talked about what love is, how we show love and the people we love. We also thought about ways we could love ourselves. We made our own paper dolls and wrote positive words on each others. They are displayed in our classroom because we feel really proud of them!

We also talked about our families and thought about the similarities and differences between ourselves and others. We realised that the most important thing is love, it doesn’t matter what a family ‘looks’ like-there is no right or wrong.

We are looking forward to the rest of the week!

Exploring clay

Our art sessions this half term are all about clay. We have enjoyed learning about the tools and the clay itself, and have explored it in lots of different ways. We have practiced rolling our clay so that it is smooth and have used lots of different tools to make different patterns and marks. We are building up to creating our own self-portrait sculpture using clay which will be really tricky! Keep checking the blog for more Panda art updates!

Exploring the woods

Panda class have been enjoying the story of Fantastic Mr Fox. In our English lessons we have been thinking about the settings in the story and using adjectives to describe them. We used all of our sense to explore and describe woodland objects, and then used our vocabulary banks to write a setting description. You are more than welcome to pop into our classroom to look at our writing!! DSC02255 DSC02256 DSC02261 DSC02257

KS1 Art

What a great first day back we have had!

Today Snow Leopard, Dolphin and Panda class started learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy- he creates all of his art using resources from nature.

We looked at some of his work, analysed it and then went outside to create our own. This is what we did:

Andy Goldsworthy

As part of our art work this half term, we are looking at different artists and working in their style. Today was the turn of Andy Goldsworthy. We found out that:

-He was born in England but now lives in Scotland.

-Studied fine art.

-Likes to use natural materials to create sculptures.

-Likes to work outside and takes photographs of his work.

We used a selection of natural materials to create small scale sculptures inside, or went foraging for materials outside and used them to create  large scale pieces. We enjoyed talking about our works  of art, and thought carefully about the materials we used and the positioning of each piece.

Look at our finished works of art!

Working in the style of Quentin Blake

Panda class have enjoyed learning about the illustrator Quentin Blake. We watched a video about his work and decided to try to work in his style.

First we explored water colours as they can be quite tricky to use! We enjoyed mixing our colours on the cartridge paper and creating different shades of the primary and secondary colours.

We then chose our favourite Quentin Blake illustration and tried to copy it. We gave each other kind feedback and helped our friends to improve their work. We made lots of drafts, each time making our drawing better.

Finally, we used our knowledge of water colours to ‘add colour’ to our designs. The finished pieces are displayed on our Quentin Blake  board in our classroom-come and look at them!!

Celebrating Roald Dahl day

We have had a brilliant day in Panda class today. We all dressed up as our favourite Roald Dahl character and looked fabulous!

We enjoyed a capacity focused Maths session, where we pretended to be George creating a new potion. We used our colour mixing skills and knowledge of full, half full and empty to create magic potions!

We have been learning about instructions in our English sessions, and decided to create our own magic potion using some strange ingredients! We used hen’s teeth, parrot feathers, bird seed and moon rocks to create some wacky potions. Then we used our knowledge of instructions to create our own.

We have enjoyed celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday in class-we even made him some cakes!!!
